From a small act of kindness to a community built on giving.

In 2010, after our dear friend Rebbetzin Hindy Rosenberg lost her home in a fire, the community came together to help her family rebuild. The outpouring of donated clothing was so great that Hindy approached Dana and Karina with an idea — to use this surplus to benefit the wider community.

October 2010, The Closet was founded as a bridge between those who give and those in need. We began in a small house at Skylake Synagogue, renovated into a clean, welcoming space where families could shop affordable, gently used clothing in a way that felt pleasant and comfortable.

From just 15 people at our first meeting, The Closet has grown to over 120 volunteers — from teens to seniors — all dedicated to giving back. Over time, it became more than a clothing service; it became a place of connection and community partnership, working alongside Skylake Synagogue, Jewish Community Services, local day schools, and the Jewish Volunteer Center.

In November 2024, we moved into our new, larger, and more modern location in Miami, enabling us to serve more families while staying true to our mission. What began as a response to one family's tragedy is now a lasting source of hope, kindness, and unity for the Jewish community.

Our Mission

Our Mission

The Closet exists to ensure that men, women, and children in our community have access to clothing that feels good to wear, is affordable, and is offered in a warm and respectful environment. We believe shopping should feel easy, welcoming, and uplifting for everyone.
